Under the CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS program, consumers will get paid up to $4,500 more than their current vehicle is worth towards any nicer, newer vehicle from a participating new car dealer when they trade in their old vehicle and purchase or lease a nicer, newer qualifying vehicle. Any drivable vehicle is eligible regardless of the age, mileage or condition. Both domestic and imported vehicles are eligible for the program. Transactions must be made between March 1, 2011 and until the program ends. This is a limited-time sale promotion.

About PA Clunkers

The CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS program is a privately funded program that helps consumers buy vehicle from a participating dealer when they trade in a “clunker” car or truck. The success of this program will energize the economy, boost auto sales and save consumers money.

Eligibility

Any drivable vehicle is eligible regardless of the age, mileage or condition. Both domestic and imported vehicles are eligible for the program. Transactions must be made between March 1, 2011 and until the program ends. This is a limited-time sale promotion.

How it Works

Consumers will get paid up to $4,500 more than your current vehicle is worth towards any nicer, newer vehicle from a participating car dealer when they trade in their old vehicle and purchase a nicer, newer qualifying vehicle.The dealers are not reimbursed by any government program or taxpayer-supported program. The vehicles traded in under the CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS program will be disposed of at the selling dealer’s discretion.

FAQ

Do I need to bring anything to the dealership in order to participate in the CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS program?

YES. Bring the following items:
1. Personal state identification (Driver’s License)
2. The trade-in vehicle
3. The title of the trade-in vehicle (if applicable)

May I trade more than one vehicle under the CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS program?

YES. The CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS program specifies that multiple vehicles may be traded assuming all other rules apply.

Is this program supported by taxpayer dollars or government “bailouts”?

NO. The CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS program is completely funded by the participating automotive dealers.

Is there a set amount that I’ll receive for my car the CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS program?

YES. The amount is up to $4500 more than your current vehicle is worth regardless of the age, mileage or condition.

Are there different CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS payout amounts for the purchase or lease of a van, pickup truck or SUV?

NO. The maximum value given for any vehicle is up to $4,500 more than it’s fair market value.

Is there a way for me to determine which dealerships are participating in the CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS program?

YES. The CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS program is limited to dealers listed in the Participating Dealers section of this website.

I just recently traded in my old car for a new vehicle. Can I go back to the dealer and apply for my additional CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS payout?

If you purchased the vehicle before March 1, 2011, you are not eligible for any additional CASH FOR PA
CLUNKERS payout money.

What happens to the vehicle I trade in?

The CASH FOR PA CLUNKERS program allows the dealers to dispose of the vehicle at their own discretion.

Trade-In Eligibility Questions

Are there special requirements for my trade-in vehicle?

YES. Your trade-in vehicle must be in drivable condition.

Is it okay to accept a title and registration that have different names due to a name change (i.e. marriage, divorce)?

YES.

Is it okay if a husband and wife are jointly registered and titled on an eligible trade-in vehicle and only ONE of them wants to be on the new vehicle’s title?

YES.

Is it okay if only one of a couple (husband or wife, parent or child) is registered and titled on an eligible trade-in vehicle and BOTH want to be on the new vehicle’s title?

YES.

Is it okay if one spouse is registered and titled on a vehicle and the other spouse wants to be titled on the new vehicle without the original spouse?

YES.

I am in the military and am currently deployed on active duty abroad. I have an eligible trade-in vehicle. I have executed a power of attorney that allows another individual to sign all required documents on my behalf. May I participate?

YES. Note: A copy of the Power of Attorney must be brought to the dealership.

I am in the military and my registration lapsed while I was deployed for active duty abroad. My state gives a grace period for me to correct the lapsed registration because I was deployed. May I participate in the program?

YES.

Vehicle Eligibility Questions

May I purchase a used vehicle?

Yes.

May I purchase a foreign vehicle?

YES. You may purchase a foreign or domestic vehicle from a participating dealer.

Is it okay to trade in my current vehicle and buy a new motorcycle?

NO. Motorcycles are not eligible, either as trade-ins or for purchase or lease.

Is it okay to trade in a large work truck for a passenger car?

YES.
